Darryl Ashton is Blackpool's stand-up comedy poet. His poems have won several major competitions and he is also a leading reader of poems at various poetry groups on the Fylde coast, Cleveleys and Lytham, all in the sunny and friendly county of Lancashire.
He does a lot of work for charity and once raised an incredible £50,000 for the Haiti earthquake disaster appeal just by reading his own poems. As a result Darryl was invited to Buckingham Palace and met the HM Queen, who congratulated him on his poetry and his fundraising efforts.
Darryl also won first prize in a worldwide Elvis Presley poetry competition and was invited to Graceland, where he performed his prize-winning poem.
Darryl’s poetic talent is once again on proud display in this, his fourth book, which contains more of his brilliant poems. In this enjoyable collection he draws inspiration from the world’s favourite game and in particular the English Premiership and its famous teams, including Manchester United and Liverpool FC, who feature in many of the poems.
Managers, players, boardroom politics and tactics all come under scrutiny in these gently humorous verses. There is something for every football fan!
