In this enjoyable and anecdotal reflection, Peter Holland looks back on an eventful career with the Royal Air Force that spanned four decades from the 1950s to the 1990s, during which time he served in a variety of capacities, witnessed many changes and progressed from raw recruit to the rank of Group Captain, earning an MBE along the way for good measure.

Peter served in various roles, at first with the RAF Regiment in Egypt, Iraq, Jordan and Cyprus. Later, on Supply and Movements duties, his organisational abilities were used to good effect at RAF establishments at home in the UK and overseas, including tours in Cyprus, Singapore (RAF Tengah) and Germany.

During his years in the Royal Air Force Peter served as airman, infantryman, air defender, fire officer and logistician in joint service, Commonwealth and NATO assignments throughout the world, commanded numerous units, saw active service and spent all but his last six months in uniform.

Written in an easygoing style and with an emphasis on the more light-hearted moments from his days in the Service, enlivened by humorous episodes from his family life, Peter’s reminiscences will appeal to anyone who has served in the armed forces, although a Services background is by no means necessary to enjoy his amusing recollections of the memorable people, places and situations he encountered over the years.
